Occupational therapists can:

- Help clients contact community service organizations that can assist them in settling into the community through ESL programs
- Assist clients in putting together paperwork and assessment for LINC
- Use the ESL Directory Resource (provided by Catholic Social Services)

Federal Programs

Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC)

A federal government program for adult immigrants

Provides:
- Free language training in basic English or French
- Language classes
- Choice of part-time, full-time, evenings or weekends
- Transportation and child-care 

To qualify for LINC, students must be assessed by Language Assessment Referral and Counselling Centre (LARCC) office at Catholic Social Services (10709 – 105 St, 780-424-3545 for appointment)

Look for programs marked with LINC for immigrant services that have LINC classes

Multicultural and Language Learning Programs (Edmonton Public Library)

Provides: Variety of English conversation clubs, branch dependent, see webpage for more details

English Language Learning (Edmonton Public Library) 

Provides: Resources and conversation groups

ASSIST Community Services
Services provided in: English, Cantonese, Mandarin, Vietnamese, Korean and Arabic

Provides:  
- Immigrant Settlement Services (Integrated Services Program: ISP):  Immigrant settlement information, Career and Employment Counselling, Newcomers Outreach, Volunteering Opportunities, Community Development Workshops, Filling out government applications / forms
- Adult English Courses (LINC, Conversation Classes, Citizenship Preparation)
- Family-Based Activities Groups (Children, Youth, Seniors)
- Employment Readiness Workshops

Edmonton Immigrant Services Association (EISA)

Provides: 
 - Translation and interpretation of documents (diploma / degree certificates, birth/marriage/death/divorce certificates, professional accreditation): Free for clients who have been in Canada for less than a year, fee for those over
 - ESL and Citizenship Classes: basic literary, ESL, health and wellness, community and support, outreach basic survival English program
- New Neighbours Program: Pairs newcomers with community volunteers who help newcomers with community participation, use of services and find out more information about the city
- Youth Settlement programs: newcomer student programs, tutorship and mentorship program
- In-School Settlement Programs
- In-Library Settlement Programs
